Dimraeth spells and spellbooks
You fight with five Dimraeth spells at a time. Some come with your race and class through the skill tree, and Alaric in Earlwood gives you a spell for your class for free. Most of the rest are spellbooks: find a ruined book in the world, craft it (Tamson and Rahaner hold most recipes), and learn it only if your attributes meet the book’s requirements.

Where spells come from
“Your race and class offer their own spells, while crafted spellbooks grant access to universal magic, provided you meet each spell’s attribute requirements.”
Mudtek. From the Dimraeth Steam store page
| Source | What you get | How | Who says so |
|---|---|---|---|
| Your skill tree | Race and class spells, plus modifiers for them | Spend skill points on major nodes | Store page, Larry Puss, Zhun |
| Alaric, Great Hall in Earlwood | One spell for your class, free | Talk to him when you first reach the village | Larry Puss, SwoleBenji |
| Ruined spellbooks in the world | A recipe for that spell | Pick it up, then have the book crafted | Steam achievement text, creators |
| Rahaner, guild hall | A shop of spells, mostly physical | Craft or buy; some need a material such as wolf fangs | Revvy, Zhun, SwoleBenji |
| Tamson | A crafting list, mostly magic | Craft from recipes you have found | Revvy, Zhun |
| Bosses | Materials for specific spell recipes | Take the drop to a trainer | Revvy, LightItUpDan |
Zhun ranks the two routes: “While some spells are unlocked through your skill tree, most unlockable spells will come through the spell book system.” How the tree’s wings and corners are laid out is on the Dimraeth skill tree.
Spells named by players so far
Mudtek has not published a spell list for the Early Access build. These are the spells that creators and players name while playing it, with what each source says. Filter by where the spell comes from.
| Spell | Comes from | What the source says |
|---|---|---|
| Heavy Strike | Alaric, for a Minotaur Brawler | SwoleBenji: “he gives us spell, a spell called heavy strike.” |
| Weapon Swap | Human sword and crossbow swap; changeable in the skill tree | A player: “Some skills (Weapon Swap I believe is included) uses stamina rather than concentration.” |
| Vortex | Skill tree, on a Minotaur Brawler’s path | SwoleBenji: “Vortex. This is our whirlwind ability. Does lots of damage, applies bleed.” |
| Backstab Strike | Elf race spell | Larry Puss: “backstab strike has thrust damage, costs five stamina to cast, and has a cool down of 3 seconds” |
| Temporal Spike | Elf | The forum moderator: “Elves can do Temporal spike which explodes DOTs” |
| Fireball | Named in an Elf Mage thread | A player: “Fireball has a very short CD and two nodes that make for amazing AOE clear.” |
| Tendon Slice | Recipe in the world, crafted at Rahaner; needs agility | SwoleBenji: “the tendon slice requires three wolf fangs and three droop cores and one rough paper” |
| Flaming Strike | Spellbook; needs seven Energy among other attributes | Zhun: “a hybrid spell that deals both physical and magical damage” |
| Frozen Strike | Spellbook southeast of the Dwarven Mountains waypoint | SwoleBenji points out “a spell book for Frozen Strike” there; Larry Puss’s copy costs 8 concentration and 15 stamina (icons below). |
How Mudtek designed the spell system
Before Early Access, a Mudtek devlog walked through how the spell system is built. It shows the design at the time, not the build you can buy: it mentions a fairy race, and it lists toggle and passive spells while saying “we’ve since removed it from the game and we’re not currently using any passive spells” (auto-captions). Two ideas from it also show up in what Early Access players report. Attribute gates: “for stat spells you actually need to raise your attributes to meet the minimum requirement for that spell”, and players meet the same kind of requirement on spellbooks in step 4 below. And spells tied to a race: “race spells are specific to the race that you choose and those will actually have special race animations”.
1. Collect Alaric’s free spell
On arriving in Earlwood, go into the Great Hall. Larry Puss’s storage guide says “Alleric will also give you a new spell depending on your class, completely free for you to learn and use.” (auto-captions spell the name Alleric). What you get depends on the character. SwoleBenji, on a Minotaur Brawler, got a melee spell: “Now, he gives us spell, a spell called heavy strike.” In The Gutter Goblin’s recording on the same character type, Alaric’s line offers a spare spellbook to keep you alive. The quest that brings you to him is on the Dimraeth walkthrough, and where Alaric and the trainers stand is on Dimraeth NPCs.
2. Find ruined spellbooks
Books lying in the world are recipes, not spells. The Steam achievement Light Reading asks you to “Find your first ruined spellbook”, and the in-game spellbook tip Into.the.Wicked reads aloud says “You may learn new ability from it if you have the right attributes.”
Two creators describe the map markers slightly differently:
Icons show where books are
“If you open the map, you’ll have markers indicated by spell book icons showing you where you can find these spell books.”
Marked once you find them
“Spell books out in the world are set points of interest and will be marked on your map once you find them.”
Either way, books sit at fixed spots, so a book icon on the Dimraeth map is worth a detour. They are also how a character gets spells its tree lacks. A player answering an Elf who wanted to fight at range wrote “There are actual spellbooks of ranged spells you can find throughout the map that you can learn and use those as your ranged spells if you wanted to.”
3. Craft or buy at Tamson and Rahaner
The same tip points you to both trainers: “Trade with Tamson or Rainar if you require more.” Captions spell the second name Rainar, Rainer, Raina and Rahanar; a player guide on r/dimraeth and the forum moderator write Rahaner. It is the same trainer in the guild hall.
Their lists grow. Larry Puss says “They will both have more spells available as you progress through the game and complete … more of their quests.” Some recipes need a drop as well. SwoleBenji, in the guild hall: “you can go to Rahanner and you can learn … Tendon Slice if you happen to have the wolf fangs.” Boss kills feed the same system; Revvy notes “You also get different spells for fighting bosses.” Which bosses exist is on Dimraeth bosses. Once the book is crafted, you use it from your inventory to learn the spell.
4. Check the requirements before you spend
A crafted book is not a learned spell. Zhun: “The catch here is that simply discovering the recipe and getting the materials to craft the spell book doesn’t mean that you can learn the spells.” SwoleBenji got the Tendon Slice book and then found “I do not have … the required agility, unfortunately.” Requirements run from small to steep; Revvy expects books that “require 12 strength and other stats like that.” Zhun’s Flaming Strike example, and how attribute points are bought with XP, are on Dimraeth leveling and attributes. Look at the books you want before you commit points.
Reading a spellbook’s icons
The book screen explains little. Larry Puss worked out the icons on their Frozen Strike book; the numbers below are that book’s.
| Icon | Means | In Larry Puss’s words |
|---|---|---|
| Attribute icons, including those at the bottom | What you need to learn it | “these icons here and even the ones at the bottom give you information about the requirements needed to learn the spell.” |
| White circle with a C | Concentration cost per cast (8 on this book) | “Concentration is basically your mana that you need to cast the spell.” |
| Lightning symbol | Stamina cost per cast (15 on this book) | “Right next to it with the lightning symbol and the number 15 is the stamina cost to cast the spell.” |
| Hourglass | Cooldown | “The hourglass is the cool down of the spell” |
| Fatter hourglass | Weight of the book | “the one that looks like a fatter hourglass is actually the weight of the spellbook, and the yellow circle is the gold cost.” |
| Yellow circle | Gold value | |
| Icons to the right, in the spell list | Category, sortable | “It can be a straight-up damage spell, a damage with effect spell, or a damage with class spell.” |
Do not confuse the last two with the first two: “Concentration has a white circle with a C, while gold is yellow.” A race icon in that list matters for the tree; Larry Puss’s Backstab Strike shows it, meaning “So, you can get this spell if you have the elf race.” and Elf nodes can boost it. Whether a spell draws on stamina or concentration decides how you refill between casts, explained on Dimraeth combat: stamina and concentration.
Five slots, and what to put in them
“Equip five spells at a time and build tactical rotations and combinations around your loadout.”
Mudtek. From the Dimraeth Steam store page
Slots are set in the Spells window. On the Human, Weapon Swap takes one; the forum moderator’s tip for a crowded bar is that “you can also move it in the "Spells" window to a place that you won’t press frequently until you get enough spells to remove it from the bar.” Full five-spell loadouts that creators recorded are on Dimraeth builds.
Found books versus tree spells is a live argument. A player’s day-one review felt “the skills you can find struggle to compete with the ones you can get from your skill tree because you can’t upgrade them”. Larry Puss’s view is that tree nodes improve spells by category, so a spell’s race or class icon tells you which nodes can boost it: “Each spell can be further improved in whatever direction you want.”
Healing spells: two accounts
“even though my elf doesn’t have any like water or healing capabilities innately in the skill tree, I can find them out in the world”
“i don’t think I’ve picked up a single skill book that contains self or other player healing.”
Neither names a healing spellbook, and Mudtek has not listed one.
How damage over time scales
The attribute screen does not say. A player asking on r/dimraeth put it as “I see stats explain a lil bit what they do when lvling them up but none says anything about these two dots”. The answers came from players, and they agree:
So open the Codex, not the attribute screen, before building around a damage type. DimraethDev, a developer account, only added “Unfortunately I haven’t seen a good DOTs build guide yet”. One Shadow player on the Steam forum warns that “50% of monsters in later areas are decay resistant”; that figure is their estimate, not a published number.
How many spells are there?
The store page says “More than 300 spells are available in total.” The store does not say whether that counts the Early Access build. Phillip’s combat devlog, from before launch, framed the same figure as a goal: “At launch, we aim to offer over 300 spells”. Neither gives a count for the Early Access build, which has three races and three classes. What else the Early Access build does and does not contain is on what is in Dimraeth Early Access.
