Dimraeth stutter and lag fixes
If Dimraeth stutters in singleplayer but runs smoothly in a friend’s game, that matches a developer’s explanation: solo, your PC runs every monster, event and timer in the world, and as a guest it runs none of them. For stutter everywhere, open the game’s log folder in your user folder and check the size of player.log; a huge file means errors are hammering your disk, and the developers want that file. Players also report that turning VSync off and capping at 60 FPS fixed stutter and slow motion for them, though not for everyone.

Why singleplayer can run worse than joining a friend
A player found the game almost unplayable solo, stutter included in menus and the talent tree, and wrote “I did multiplayer last night and we both had no issues.” The developer’s answer:
“So the skill tree is the heaviest menu so that tells me your PC is borderline struggling to run the game probably.”
“When you play singleplayer - your computer is tracking all monsters, events, farming timers, respawn timers, etc.”
“When you play as a client on someone elses server - your PC runs none of those things so your game will play better as a client than single player.”
Two things follow. If the skill tree is the first screen to stutter, your machine is near its limit, not broken. And if a friend has the stronger PC, let them host and join as a client; how hosting works is on Dimraeth co-op and multiplayer. The player was not fully convinced: the game later ran fine for them on the same PC, then lagged again after alt-tabbing, and “I was in a mostly empty Sanctum map the whole time.”
Two other causes have their own explanations: a developer says the build really needs a graphics card with 4 GB of VRAM (details on Dimraeth system requirements), and a short hitch at fixed crossings such as the Earlwood bridge is the open world loading the next area.
Fixes from the developers
Try these first.
- Check player.log before you restart
Open this folder (paste it into the File Explorer address bar;
%USERPROFILE%is your Windows user folder):%USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\Mudtek\DimraethA developer posting as mudtek on r/dimraeth explains what the file tells you:
“If it is huge it means some error is pounding your hard drive and causing stutter. If it’s just 100Kb or something then it may be something else but I’d still like the file.”
mudtek, a developer account on Reddit. Posted in the r/dimraeth thread: Stuttering ?
Copy the file out before relaunching; another developer warns “if you restart the game it will clear the log file”. Then send it: “You can join our discord and create a bug thread post and I will respond there.” The Discord link is on the Dimraeth community page.
- Character hopping or input lag at a stable FPS: turn off Steam recording
A player whose character was hopping around wrote “my character is hopping around, input is delayed and its lagging like hell.” The developer passed on one report, with a clear caveat:
“Someone recently told me they had a similar issue where the character was hopping around and they turned off steam recording and it went away.”
“You could try that but I still have not found a smoking gun.”
It did not help the player who asked, who replied “Unfortunatly i dont have steam recording on.” Still, it is a one-minute check in Steam’s settings.
- Antivirus flags il2cpp, or the game will not start
“Some people have to disable windows smart app (or maybe there's a way to add the game as an exception).”
“I do not know why it is flagged as such.”
A player in the thread called the alert “It’s called a false positive.” Adding the game as an exception is the gentler option the developer mentions; Smart App Control in Windows is a security feature, so switching it off is your call. A related problem, security software blocking saves, has its own fix on Dimraeth bugs and fixes.
- Still stuttering solo: join a friend’s world as a client
Per the developer’s explanation above, the client does none of the world simulation.
Fixes from players
These come from players, not the studio. Each result is one person’s machine.
VSync off and a 60 FPS cap
The in-game frame cap is limited; a player asking for more options described “Having only 30-60 lock as an option looks weird”, so 60 is the top of the built-in lock. If it makes things worse, turn VSync back on.
Steam Deck
The developer’s own Deck figures are on Dimraeth on Steam Deck. One setting a Deck player changed to hold the frame rate:
“I did change the shading settings down to medium for a consistent 60fps because depending on what weather effects or spell effects are on screen it can drop down to the 40s”
A player. Posted in Steam discussion: Steam Deck
By that account, busy fights with weather and spell effects are the test, not empty fields. Text size is the other Deck complaint, and raising UI scaling does not fully solve it: one player “already changed UI scaling to %130 but I guess thats not enough”. A moderator passed that on; there is no fix yet.
The same folder holds your saves
A player answering where the game saves gave the same AppData\LocalLow\Mudtek\Dimraeth folder. That is a player’s answer; Mudtek has only pointed to the folder for player.log. Either way, copy files out of it rather than deleting anything while you troubleshoot. Crashes tied to a single character file, which the developers ask to see, are on Dimraeth bugs and fixes.
