Dimraeth leveling, attributes and respec
XP in Dimraeth is a currency. You spend it at a campfire or a trainer to raise attributes, the XP you spend fills your level bar, and each level-up gives skill points. The cap in Early Access is level 25. Resetting skill points is easy; whether and how you can reset attributes is disputed, so spend attribute XP with a plan.
Skill points: pay Rahaner in the guild hall. Attributes: a forum moderator’s route is to bring Befr to your Sanctum, finish his building quest for the Facilities Center, upgrade his shop and buy a respec potion, which two creators and a player call the Elixir of Rebirth at 500 gold. The steps and the disagreementNot confirmed by Mudtek, and one creator had not found any attribute reset.
How a level actually happens
- Earn XP kills, critters, quests, deeds
- Train at a campfire or trainer
- Buy attribute points price set by race and class
- Level bar fills with the XP you spent
- Skill points spend them in the tree
“You can level up at any campfire out in the world or in town. You’ll spend experience points as a currency to increase your attributes”
LightItUpDan. Said in LightItUpDan video: FIRST Character in Dimraeth? Start Here!
“The amount of XP used will also count towards filling your overall level, which provides skill points for use in your skill tree.”
LightItUpDan. Said in LightItUpDan video: FIRST Character in Dimraeth? Start Here!
Revvy shows the numbers on screen: “If I invest in agility, it cost me 92 XP. That 92, once I invest, will then go into this leveling bar here.” A player who kept earning XP without leveling was told by another player that the XP has to be spent this way first; if you have never opened the Train option, that is why your level has not moved.
“Yes, level 25 is the max level for Act I.”
Shindaru, developer. From the Steam discussion: Early Access FAQ
Mudtek’s pre-launch notes add that the cap goes up with each act: “for the demo and playtest players the level cap is different now to max at level 25 which will be increased with each new act”. The skill points figure is one creator’s: “every time that you level up thanks to the experience points you spend, you will gain two skill points”. Where those points go is on the Dimraeth skill tree page.
Why the same point costs you more than a friend
The price of an attribute depends on your character, and Mudtek explained it before launch:
“In Dimraeth, it costs XP to level up your attributes. The XP cost of each attribute is primarily determined by your race–class combination.”
Phillip, Game Director. From Mudtek’s blog, Steam announcement: Character Creation in Dimraeth
The consequence, in the same post: pour XP into stats your archetype is bad at and “you will end up with fewer total attribute points by the time you reach max level”. Costs also climb as you buy; one player put it as “all your stat costs go up regardless of what you buy or how useful they are.” Which archetype is cheap in what is part of choosing a Dimraeth class and race.
What each attribute is known to do
Mudtek has not published attribute formulas. This table holds only what creators and players describe from the Early Access build; hover an attribute in your character tab, and check the Advanced tab, for your own exact numbers.
| Attribute | What it does, as described | Described by |
|---|---|---|
| Strength | Physical damage. Extra stamina per point only on the Minotaur Brawler, whose archetype passive adds it. | SwoleBenji; Mudtek's character creation blog |
| Agility | Attack damage and attack speed, at half the value strength gives, per SwoleBenji. On the Elf archetypes shown by Revvy and Larry Puss, extra stamina per point. | SwoleBenji; Revvy; Larry Puss |
| Intelligence | Magic damage. | Zhun |
| Memory | The concentration pool your spells draw on, in one player's description. | A player on the forum |
| Physique | Max health, and encumbrance according to the tooltip. Players dispute the encumbrance part. | Zhun; two forum threads |
| Adventure | Physical and magical damage, and encumbrance per the tooltip. On the Human Shadow, extra attack speed. | Revvy |
| Energy | Seen as a spell requirement (Flaming Strike needs seven). What it adds on its own is not documented in these sources. | Zhun |
On encumbrance the tooltips and the game disagree. One player found “This is contradicted by the encumbrance codex Note which says encumbrance can only be increased by finding items in the world.” Another wrote “Strength and Physique say they influence this stat, but after dumping a few points into them, it seems nothing other than the discoverable stones influence it.” Those stones are the shrines of encumbrance SwoleBenji collects in their route; if carry weight is your problem, find shrines and build storage in the Dimraeth Sanctum rather than buying stats.
Spend for spells, not only for damage
Every spell book lists attribute requirements, and you cannot learn the spell until you meet them. Revvy’s example is small: “I’m going to need three memory and three intelligence to cast fire burst.” Zhun’s is not: “the requirements for flaming … strike are seven memory, eight adventure, and seven energy”, which Zhun had to grind for on a character with no points in either. Before dumping every point into one attribute, look at the spell books you want. Builds recorded with their attribute plans are on Dimraeth builds.
Respec: skill points yes, attributes disputed
Resettable, cheap
Zhun: “You are given a couple of free points to move around at first, but then it will cost you some gold.”
A player guide on r/dimraeth names the NPC: “Rahaner inside the Guild lets you respec Skill Tree points”
Two accounts
One side: an Elixir of Rebirth, 500 gold, from a Sanctum NPC. The other: a creator who had not found any way, and a player told by the trainer that special items are needed.
Yes: the Elixir of Rebirth
The forum moderator Wizardmanguy answered a player asking about attribute points: “Attributes CAN be reset a bit into the game”, and gave the route.
- Get Befr to join your Sanctum.
- Complete his building quest, which gives you the Facilities Center station.
- Use the Facilities Center to upgrade Befr’s shop.
- Buy the potion: “Once Befr’s shop is upgraded, he sells a potion which allows you to respec your attribute points!”
Where Befr and the other recruits stand, and what the Facilities Center upgrades, is on Dimraeth NPCs. Two creators show the same item:
“If you ever want to respspec your stats, you’ll have to bring Bever back to the sanctum.”
Revvy. Said in Revvy video: Making YOUR First Character In Dimraeth? Watch This!
Revvy then upgrades that NPC’s shop at the nearby desk and buys it: “you’ll be able to buy the elixir of rebirth for 500 gold”. A player guide on r/dimraeth agrees on the item and the price but not on the shop level:
“Befr at Level 2 in your Sanctum lets you respec Talent points. You have to buy the Elixir of Rebirth which costs 500 gold.”
A player. Posted in r/dimraeth thread: PSA: How to Respec Talent and Skill Tree Points
The NPC is Befr, the spelling Mudtek uses in its Earlwood devlog and patch notes (Revvy’s captions read it as Bever). Revvy says the shop needs level one, the player says level two. The same player added “I believe the way to unlock Befr in your Sanctum is by rescuing a lost child.” LightItUpDan also mentions respec potions as something you unlock: “You’ll unlock respec potions, so I wouldn’t sweat getting your build perfect from level one.”
No, or not found
“while there is an option to reset your skill points, I still haven’t seen an option to reset your stats anywhere in the game yet”
Zhun. Said in My name is Zhun video: You will theorycraft your character, and you WILL like it! | Dimraeth new ARPG guide
“Yeah, but you need special items for that at least that’s what the trainer tells you. No idea where you actually get them though.”
Both fit an elixir that exists but is locked behind a Sanctum recruit, and neither side is a developer. Until Mudtek says otherwise, treat an attribute respec as a 500-gold item you may not have yet. Changing class is a different question: the forum moderator answered “As of EA launch, there is no way to change appearance, or class.”
XP rules worth knowing
- Death does not cost XP. “Unlike in Souls games, your XP currency does not drop upon death, but the enemies do respawn.”
- Sleep at home at night. Resting in your tent or bed in the Sanctum during the night window gives buffs; LightItUpDan says “These will provide various powerful buffs and even a flat XP check-in bonus.”
- Hard difficulty pays no extra XP. The forum moderator: “There is no loot or XP incentive for playing on Hard other than enjoying (?) the difficulty.”
- At level 25. A player who had finished the story asked on the forum whether XP stops being awarded past the cap; the thread has no answer. What there is to do after Act I is on Dimraeth endgame and deeds.
- XP vanished at level-up? Usually a preview-bar bug a developer described; the workaround is on Dimraeth bugs and fixes.
