Dimraeth reviews

Combat and pixel art are the themes Steam reviewers bring up most, mostly in positive reviews. In negative reviews the most mentioned themes are the dialogue and AI. The counts come from a fixed sample of 286 English reviews written in the first days of Early Access, of which 247 recommend the game and 39 do not; it is not the live score.

Themes, counted

A review is counted under a theme when its text uses one of the listed words, so a review can count under several themes, and a mention can be praise or complaint. The split shows which kind of review raised it.

Art and visuals4312art, pixel, visual(s), graphics
Dialogue and writing2820dialogue, writing, written

Performance72lag, stutter, fps, frame rate, performance, optimization, crash, freeze
Controls and controllers44controls, controller, keyboard, mouse, keybind, remap, WASD

Two numbers stand out. Of the 39 negative reviews, 20 mention the dialogue or writing and 20 mention AI, more than any other theme. And negative reviews came early: the median negative review was written at 0.8 hours of play, against 2.9 hours for recommended ones, and 30 of the 39 had under two hours played.

What reviewers praise

Combat

Named in 72 reviews

easily the strongest point, dimreath has a fantastically robust and mechanically complex combat system

A recommended review. From Dimraeth English Steam user reviews (most recent)

It is not unanimous: one negative review calls the game great idea, great art but the combat clunky. The classes that shape that combat are on Dimraeth classes.

Art

Praised even in negative reviews

Visually, Dimraeth is gorgeous and from my short time playing the gameplay is genuinely fun.

A review that does not recommend the game. From Dimraeth English Steam user reviews (most recent)

12 negative reviews mention the art; this one praises it while not recommending the game.

What reviewers criticise

The dialogue, and whether AI wrote it

20 negative reviews and 18 recommended ones mention AI. The two quotes below show the range: one asks for honesty about where the writing came from, the other is not sure AI was used at all.

Even if its been through a human filter, I think it is important to be honest about the provenance of content.

I am unsure if AI was used here.

What the store page once disclosed, what it says now, and what developers have and have not said are set out without a verdict on the Dimraeth AI dialogue question.

Three races and three classes, not eight and six

18 reviews bring up the roster or the store’s description (8 negative, 10 recommended). Two views from each side:

If you click into the Early Access notes, it literally tells you exactly what was included in the Early Access release.

The store’s headline describes eight races and six classes; its Early Access notes, further down the same page, list three races and three classes. The whole picture is on all Dimraeth archetypes.

Progression, performance and controls

Mixed: Progression: mostly liked, with a respec wish17 of 20 mentions are in recommended reviews. One of them adds My only complaint is that I wish you could respec stat points as well.; a negative one says stat increases do barely anything. How attributes and respec work is on Dimraeth leveling and respec.
Mixed: Performance: few mentions, mixedRecommended reviews range from Tech performance is great, with controller and steam deck support. to laggy but enjoyable; one negative review says it is unplayable due to massive frame rate drops and lag. The VRAM the developer says you need is on Dimraeth system requirements.
Mostly complaints: Controls: few mentions, half of them negative8 reviews. Complaints include a controller spamming the interact button and a Deck that would not leave controller mode; one negative review still calls the controls responsive. Settings and known input issues are on Dimraeth controls and controller.

Price

Recommended

So much content for EA for $20 is a steal.

Not recommended

This price, is too expensive for a game in this stage...

A review. From Dimraeth English Steam user reviews (most recent)

Of 23 reviews that talk about price or the amount of content, 16 recommend the game. The launch discount and the planned price rises are on Dimraeth price, and what the build contains is on what is in Dimraeth Early Access.
