Dimraeth planks: Pinewood first, Heart Oak later
Your first Pinewood Planks cannot be crafted: loot them from chests, corpses and hollow logs in the Farmland north of Earlwood Village, and build the workbench as soon as you have them. From then on you make Pinewood Planks at the workbench from pinewood. Heart Oak comes later; one player finds it in the northern woods after the first boss.

- Loot Pinewood Planks Farmland, north of Earlwood
- Build the workbench in the Sanctum
- Gather pinewood with an axe then craft planks at the workbench
- Heart Oak northern woods, after the first boss
Pinewood vs Heart Oak at a glance
| Pinewood Planks | Heart Oak | |
|---|---|---|
| Where | Loot in the Farmland just north of Earlwood Village: chests, corpses, hollow logs and tree trunks | The northern woods, after the first boss |
| When in the game | Needed for the first workbench, before you can craft planks yourself | Later; SwoleBenji places it in the next area after the Sanctum’s first building quests |
| Can you craft it? | Not before the workbench; after it, yes, from pinewood | One player was crafting planks when they found they needed heart oak; the recipe itself is not documented |
| What needs it | The workbench, and with stone nails, the storage chest | Copper tools (one player), a facility center (SwoleBenji) |
| Who says so | A forum moderator, SwoleBenji, Larry Puss, players on the forum and Reddit | Two players on the Steam forum, SwoleBenji |
Players use two words for the later wood: heart oak in two forum threads, heartwood in another thread and in SwoleBenji’s video. Whether they are the same item is not stated anywhere. The build menu in Mudtek’s trailer lists a Heart Oak Mill and a Pinewood Mill under Production; Mudtek has not said what either mill makes.
Your first two Pinewood Planks, before the workbench
The workbench blueprint comes from the Learning to Build quest (the order is on the Dimraeth walkthrough), but you cannot craft its planks yet. SwoleBenji: “the only way to get pinewood planks is by looting them randomly around the world from like dead bodies, chests, the little holes in in like logs”. By the time the workbench quest comes up, he says “you should have two of these in your stash” if you have been looting as you go.
- Teleport to Earlwood and head into the Farmland
Larry Puss picks up the quest board in Earlwood, then goes to the farmlands: “This is where you’ll start looking for planks and nails”. The regions are laid out on the Dimraeth map.
- Open every chest and search every corpse
“So you will find Pinewood Planks in the Farmland just north of Earlwood Village. You should find them most frequently in chests and on corpses.”
Larry Puss adds tree trunks: “the most reliable places I’ve found them are chests, tree trunks, and especially dead corpses scattered around the world”.
- Still short? Try the stump chests further north
The player who asked that forum question had bad luck in the Farmland and says “i got the planks from the forest area from the stump chests north of the farmlands”. On Reddit, a player stuck on one plank was told “After you travel to the town and grab the main quest and go through the woods is when I got it”.
- In co-op, check the loot setting
That Reddit player explained the missing plank: “I started with a multiplayer lobby without personal loot”. If planks never seem to drop in your lobby, check how loot is split; the personal loot toggle, and one player’s report that it does not work, are on Dimraeth co-op.
- Keep your bags light while you look
Until you can build chests, a player points out “There’s a chest in the right side of the guild hall that you can use for storage until you can make your own chests.” The forum moderator also said “I usually would keep my inventory low by breaking down gear at the blacksmith, or selling things that I didn’t have use for at the moment”. Carry weight is covered on Dimraeth inventory and encumbrance.
After the workbench: make Pinewood Planks yourself
Place the workbench in your Dimraeth Sanctum and the looting stops mattering. Larry Puss: “Once you have the workbench, you can craft nails using stones and planks using pinewood”. SwoleBenji crafts his planks “using the pine so you never have to worry about RNG ever again”.
Tools first
“if you want to start farming stone deposits and chopping down pinewood trees for materials, you’re going to need an axe and a pickaxe”, plus gloves for higher-grade plants. The workbench can make a Stone Woodcutting Axe, a Stone Pickaxe and Flax Gloves, but Larry Puss gets all three from Rahaner, the Earlwood trainer: “He should give you the tools for free”.
Chests next
A storage chest is placed from the Sanctum build menu and, in one player’s words, the chests “only require stone nails and some planks”. Stone Nails are a workbench recipe too. The other recipes are on Dimraeth crafting.
Heart Oak planks: the northern woods
Asked on the Steam forum where to find heart oak planks, a player answered:
“In the northern woods, after the first boss. You’ll know you’re in the right area when the wolves start shooting back.”
The ranged enemies that come with wolf packs are on Dimraeth enemies. Which boss Lanrutcon counts as the first is not in the post; the boss order is on Dimraeth bosses. That is one player’s answer; Mudtek has not published where Heart Oak drops.
What players needed it for, in their own words:
- Copper tools. One player on the forum: “i noticed i needed heart oak to make my copper tools”.
- A facility center. SwoleBenji reaches the Sanctum quest that asks for one and finds “a facility center takes heart oat planks, which we can’t get to yet cuz that’s in the next area” (the captions spell it oat). He adds that “as you go through the second zone, you’ll get higher tier materials”, naming “copper and heartwood”.
- Building up the town. A player tired of the loot wrote “I’m more excited to find more heartwood for my town than I am finding equipment.”
If you reach the facility center step before the northern woods, skip it and carry on with the main quest; it is waiting on a material from further along the route in the Dimraeth beginner guide.
Four ways players lost planks
One more data point on how long the hunt can take: the player who asked where the first planks were wrote that “for the first 3 hours of the game i was unable to build a workbench and make chests”. Going straight to the Farmland chests after Earlwood is the shortcut.
