All Dimraeth archetypes
An archetype is your race and class together, and Dimraeth Early Access has nine: three races times three classes, each with its own name, skill tree and passive. Human Mage is the Elemental Ranger and Minotaur Mage the Earthshaker. The store’s 48 archetypes are the full-release target of 8 races and 6 classes.
The nine Early Access archetypes
| Race by class | Brawler | Mage | Shadow |
|---|---|---|---|
| Human | WildstriderAlso named in: Early Access video | Elemental RangerAlso named in: Mudtek blog · Early Access video | Gloom StalkerAlso named in: second player post |
| Minotaur | Horned VanguardAlso named in: Mudtek blog | EarthshakerAlso named in: Mudtek blog · Early Access video | Xwin DreadhornPlayer list only |
| Elf | Phase DuellistPlayer list only | Echo WeaverPlayer list only | Night's WhisperPlayer list only |
Names as listed by a player in Steam discussion: Full list of races/classes?, where the class is written Magician.
Read the grid race by row, class by column. The line under each name says what else names it. 4 of the nine are named by Mudtek (one only in part) or a creator recording the Early Access build; 1 is backed by a second player post; 4 rest on the one player list alone.
How sure is each name?
Mudtek has not published a list of all nine. The complete set of names comes from a player, Keroido, in the forum thread about the full race and class list, with the class written Magician. That list is the backbone; the evidence levels say what backs it up.
| Evidence | What it means | Archetypes |
|---|---|---|
| Mudtek blog | The Game Director used the name in their character creation post, written before Early Access. | Elemental Ranger, Earthshaker; Horned Vanguard in part (the blog says Vanguard) |
| Early Access video | A creator shows or reads the name on the Early Access build. | Wildstrider (LightItUpDan), Elemental Ranger and Earthshaker (Revvy) |
| Second player post | Another player names it independently, with its race and class. | Gloom Stalker |
| Player list only | Only the one player list names it. Nothing else checks it yet. | Xwin Dreadhorn, Phase Duellist, Echo Weaver, Night’s Whisper |
Two of the player-only names do turn up again. Another player on the forum, arguing about Elf classes, wrote “Tbf when you put Elf and Brawler together you’re a” Phase Duelist, and an Elf Mage an Echo Weaver, spelling Duelist with one l. That is a second player, not the studio, so the grid keeps them as list-only. Larry Puss names their Elf’s passive Night Whisper in their Early Access video without saying which class the character is, so it cannot confirm the Elf Shadow’s name either.
What an archetype actually changes
The name is not flavour text. Mudtek’s Game Director, Phillip (more on the studio at the Dimraeth developer page), explained the system before launch:
“The combination of race and class defines your archetype, and every archetype gets its own unique skill tree – built as a blend of race, class, and that archetype’s identity.”
Phillip, Game Director. From Steam announcement: Character Creation in Dimraeth
Race half, class half, and corners
A player summed it up: “Basically a big chunk of your skill tree is from your race, another big chunk is from your class, and then there’s a chunk that’s from your archetype (which is the unique combination of your race+class).” The layout is on the Dimraeth skill tree page.
One attribute worth more
“Effectively, each archetype has a ‘primary’ attribute that gives you the most value per point, pushing you toward certain builds while still leaving room to experiment.”
Phillip, Game Director. From Steam announcement: Character Creation in Dimraeth
The archetype also sets how much XP each attribute costs, covered on Dimraeth leveling. On the creation screen, Revvy points out tag words under the archetype name: “And the big difference here are these four little words right here. You can see hunter, blade, fire, frost for human.” Revvy reads them as “The hunter just means it has a bow. The blade means it has a sword and fire and frost are your magician archetype.” Those tags are the quickest summary of a pairing before you commit, and the forum moderator warns you will be living with it: “As of EA launch, there is no way to change appearance, or class.”
The blog’s own example of two archetypes of the same class playing differently is worth reading if you play with friends:
“One player might build a Minotaur Mage (Earthshaker) around spreading fire and proccing passives whenever enemies are Burning, while another builds a Human Mage (Elemental Ranger) that turns any existing fire on the field into high-impact single-target nukes.”
Phillip, Game Director. From Steam announcement: Character Creation in Dimraeth
Nine now, 48 planned
“Combine any of eight races with any of six classes to create 48 distinct Archetypes. Each pairing has its own skill tree and playstyle.”
Mudtek. From the Dimraeth Steam store page
That sentence describes the goal, and players who bought expecting it asked where the rest are, in threads such as Eight races with any of six classes. The forum moderator’s answer in another:
“So the numbers listed are for the 1.0 release; the EA is only releasing with Three classes and three races.”
The Game Director framed the 48 as a floor, written before Early Access:
“With our intended 1.0 roster of 8+ races and 6 classes, that already gives us at least 48 archetypes, each with its own unique tree and passive.”
Phillip, Game Director. From Steam announcement: Character Creation in Dimraeth
The official FAQ lists two race and class updates before Act II, without dates. Which races are candidates, including a developer’s own count of nine, is on Dimraeth races; the one future class a developer has named is on Dimraeth classes; and the wider gap between the store page and this build is on what is in Dimraeth Early Access. Builds recorded for specific archetypes are on Dimraeth builds.
