Dimraeth inventory: bag slots, encumbrance and potion slots

Bag slots in Dimraeth are not bought or unlocked: a forum moderator says the bag grows by itself as long as your encumbrance can carry more, so the number that actually limits you is carry weight. More potions and cures come from upgrading those items at a crafting bench, which adds charges rather than slots. Encumbrance itself goes up from shrines you find in the world; whether any attribute raises it is contradicted by the game’s own Codex, and Mudtek has not settled it.

Two limits, not one

The question that gets asked in both places at once came from a player on r/dimraeth: is there a way to carry more health pots on the hotkey? And can you expand your bag/inventory slots? Those are two different systems with two different answers, and neither is an upgrade you buy.

Grows on its own

Bag slots

The grid of squares. It extends as you carry more, so an empty tail of the grid is not something you are waiting to unlock. It never lets you exceed the weight limit.

The real ceiling

Encumbrance

The carry-weight figure at the top of the panel. When it is full you stop picking things up, whatever the grid looks like. It goes up from shrines, and the shrines are scattered across the regions on the Dimraeth map.

The player who opened the Storage System thread on the Steam forum objected to the storage side of this and not to the carrying side: I’m all for encumbrance on your character, only being able to pick up so much loot on one adventure into the world. Their complaint was what happens next, at home, which is the chest question further down.

Bag slots grow by themselves

On the r/dimraeth thread above, the Steam forum moderator Wizardmanguy — posting there as TheWizardmanguy — answered the bag half directly: your bag size increases automatically, provided you have the encumbrance to carry items. A player in the same thread had already described the same behaviour — Inventory slots incresses as long as you have sufficient weight to carry it. — and added that a bag showing a dozen slots gains another as soon as you pick up one more item.

Mudtek’s own notes show the fixed part of the bag changing during development. The release notes from the playtest list Added 6 inventory slots to the backpack and Fixed inventory to reject items when there is no space left. How many slots the bag holds in the Early Access build has not been published.

Encumbrance is the number that stops you

Carry weight is printed on the bag panel itself. SwoleBenji points at it mid-route — It carry weight is right here — and reads a single item’s weight out of its tooltip, where several small icons sit together: that icon that is not the gold one is the weight icon. In that run the crafting materials are the expensive stacks — wildwood pine weighs 5 lb each against a seed at one — which is why their advice before a trip home is that you just want to micromanage like all of the weighty stuff.

Shrines are the one source of encumbrance that the players and creators here agree on. SwoleBenji walks into one heading north out of Earlwood:

These are shrines of encumbrance. Go and use it. And your maximum encumbrance has increased.

SwoleBenji. Said in SwoleBenji video: Dimraeth The BEST Possible Start for NEW Players Strongest Build Best Stat Allocation and Skill Tree

On that character the counter moves a step at a time — We went from 300 to 315. — which is one creator’s save rather than a published table. A player answering the same r/dimraeth question describes the shrines without naming them: You can find spots in the world where U can get more encumbrance so U can carry more stuff. They sit beside waypoints and map fragments on the early route, so the cheapest way to raise your ceiling is the detour already described in the Dimraeth beginner guide.

At the ceiling the game simply refuses: You can see I’m at maximum weight capacity. I can’t pick up these droop jellos anymore. One route around it was closed during the playtest, whose hotfix notes list Fixed harvesting allowing the player to exceed their encumbrance — so treat the cap as a hard stop and plan the trip home instead.

Does an attribute raise it? The tooltip and the Codex disagree

The tooltip and the Codex note do not say the same thing, and a player on the Steam forum set them side by side:

The tool tip says your adventure stat is supposed to increase encumbrance Capacity. This is contradicted by the encumbrance codex Note which says encumbrance can only be increased by finding items in the world.

A player. Posted in the Steam thread Steam discussion: Is adventure level supposed to increase your encumbrance?

The tooltip’s side

Adventure adds capacity

A player answering the bag question on r/dimraeth says the same: U get also more Encumbrance when u Lvl Up Adventure Skill.

Revvy reads the same attribute screen in their character guide: It enhances physical and magical damage for combat as well as increase encumbrance. What each attribute is known to do is on Dimraeth leveling and attributes.

The Codex’s side

Only what you find

A player who tested it reports that it seems nothing other than the discoverable stones influence it.

SwoleBenji, who used to spend on Strength for carry weight, found the same: when I looked at the stats, it didn’t show that any of them increased encumbrance, and now says strength used to give you extra encumbrance, but we can get that later by playing the game and finding shrines.

Neither thread has an answer from Mudtek, and the player who tested it asked the useful version of the question: Is the tooltip just outdated or are there certain thresholds for increases? Until a developer says which text is right, do not spend attribute XP on carry weight: whether attributes can be reset at all is itself disputed, and the shrines cost nothing.

Carrying more potions, cures and knives

The moderator’s answer to the potion half of the question names the bench, not the bag:

You can carry more health pots by upgrading your combat items (Cures, Potions, Knives, etc) at the crafting benches!

TheWizardmanguy, a forum moderator and not a developer. Posted in the r/dimraeth thread: How do I increase potion and bag slots?

What that buys is charges on the item you already have. SwoleBenji upgrades the health flask at the alchemy table and narrates the arithmetic: whenever you craft the plus one potion, it’s going to take your current potion and now you have three charges. Two limits come with it:

  • One of each on the bar. SwoleBenji, on trying to slot two healing items: you can’t have a weak health extract here and here. Four numbered slots sit under the bag in the screenshot above, so a loadout is four different combat items, each with its own charges.
  • Combat items only. A playtest hotfix lists Fixed being able to get non-combat items onto the quick slot bar. After that fix the bar is for combat items, so it is not spare room for food or materials.

Charges refill when you rest, so the bar is a resource you spend and reset rather than a stack you hoard; what a rest costs you is on Dimraeth combat, and the alchemy recipes that raise the charge count are on Dimraeth crafting and alchemy.

When your bag is full, in order

  1. Read the weights before you drop anything

Hover the biggest stacks and find the weight icon in the tooltip. In SwoleBenji’s run the things worth putting down are logs, stone and planks at around five pounds each, against roughly one pound for flax, seeds and paper in that same save.

  2. Hand what you can to your pet

Zhun describes the pet as a second bag: You can transfer items from your inventory into your pet’s inventory. A pet can also be sent off without you — there’s also the option to send the items to the storage chests in your base — so a full pet can be sent home with the load while you keep going. Which pets exist is on Dimraeth pets.

  3. Teleport back and salvage the sets you will not wear

Larry Puss puts this first for a reason: the space problem is a gear problem, because once you start collecting different gear sets, your inventory fills up ridiculously fast. Salvage at the blacksmith turns the losers into upgrade material for the set you kept — see Dimraeth equipment and the forge.

  4. Stash the raw materials, starting with the heaviest

The guild hall has a chest before you have built anything, and it is small: there is a storage chest inside the guild hall, but it only has 18 slots, so you’re going to run out of space pretty quickly. Building your own is the fix, and chests, benches and the build menu are on the Dimraeth Sanctum page. If other people play in your world, check whether the chest is public before you fill it — SwoleBenji’s rule is you want to make sure it’s private so it doesn’t get yonked, and the chest settings that decide it are on Dimraeth co-op.

  5. Go back out lighter, and take the shrine detour

SwoleBenji’s summary of the whole loop: you got to go back to town, break your gear down, store stuff away. The quests that open the route those shrines sit on are in the Dimraeth walkthrough.

When the game will not let you place another chest

The step after a full bag is usually a chest, and two Steam threads describe the same wall: the materials are there, the outline is green, and the chest will not go down. One player asked whether it was a cap — is there a limit to how many chests you can build with progression? — and then found the cause themselves: the resources were in the workbench so they didnt count. Materials sitting in a bench or a chest are not materials in your hands.

On the other thread, where the same thing happened with a chest and an alchemy table, the forum moderator gave the workaround:

Wizardmanguy Forum moderator, replying on the Steam forum

the best way to deal with it is to make sure you have the materials for the craft in your actual inventory and then restart the world

Thread: Steam discussion: Building bug?

If you have not found chests at all, they are a Sanctum build, not a workbench recipe. A player on r/dimraeth asking how to craft a storage box was told You can build it in your sanctum and then reported the real problem: I finally noticed there’s more than the production tab at the bottom. A player in the Storage Chests thread puts the cost low — You unlock them as soon as you have access to the Sanctum and only require stone nails and some planks — while the player who opened it argues the unlock still lands too late, because it’s very likely people on their first playthrough will end up with a full inventory and not find the extra chest inside town. That is the case for doing the building quest early rather than exploring with a full bag; the nails and planks it needs are on the Dimraeth crafting page.
