Dimraeth crafting, cooking and alchemy

Crafting starts with the quest Learning to Build, which unlocks blueprints for a workbench, an alchemy station and a storage chest. The workbench comes first: loot the planks it needs, then make your own nails from stone and planks from pinewood. After that, cooking keeps your max health, concentration and stamina from dropping, the alchemy table adds potion charges, and the blacksmith salvages gear you do not want.

The first blueprints: Learning to Build

The quest comes from Faustas right after the Lost Caverns (the full route is on the Dimraeth walkthrough). Mixkx reads its text as Build your first dwelling and learn the basics of cooking. Larry Puss on the reward:

unlocks the blueprints for your workbench, alchemy station, and storage chest

Larry Puss. Said in the 7WvbXSHSAJM

None of them can be built on the spot. In Larry Puss’s words you’re going to need planks and nails, and The first thing you’ll want to prioritize is the workbench, because the workbench is what makes more of both.

Getting planks and nails before the workbench

  1. Loot them in the farmlands

Larry Puss: they can drop from enemies, but the most reliable places I’ve found them are chests, tree trunks, and especially dead corpses scattered around the world. A forum moderator’s tip on exactly where is on the Dimraeth Sanctum page.

  2. Keep going on the main quest if you are short

A Reddit player who had only one plank was told After you travel to the town and grab the main quest and go through the woods is when I got it. The same player had started in a multiplayer lobby with personal loot off, which made drops harder to find; the loot settings are on Dimraeth co-op.

  3. Build the workbench in the Sanctum, then craft your own

Larry Puss: you can craft nails using stones and planks using pinewood. Nails are heavy to carry around; SwoleBenji checks the weight: Nails weigh five each.

  4. Heart oak planks come later

Asked where Heart Oak planks are, a player answered In the northern woods, after the first boss. Heart Oak Mill and Pinewood Mill also appear under Production in the build menu in Mudtek’s trailer.

Recipes seen so far

Mudtek has not published a recipe list. These are the recipes visible in the trailer’s workbench menu or crafted on video in Early Access; the trailer may show a slightly older build.

Do not craft the axe, pickaxe and gloves yet. Larry Puss says you need an axe and a pickaxe to farm stone and pinewood, and gloves If you plan on gathering some of the higher grade plants you’ll come across while exploring, but Rahaner gives all three away for free shortly after The Time Tardy Scout. The Gutter Goblin, who crafted early, found I need more stone, but I can make some gloves.

You can also find recipes by experimenting. Game Director Phillip, before Early Access: Crafting can be done directly from your backpack, or through dedicated crafting stations. In the crafting slots, if your inputs match a valid recipe, you can craft the item and unlock that recipe at the same time. Gear itself is not crafted; the plan for that is on Dimraeth endgame.

Cooking and nourishment

Learning to Build teaches cooking with one recipe: build a campfire and cook a droop core. The warning that follows, read out by Into.the.Wicked, is the reason cooking is not optional for long:

If you don’t, your maximum health, concentration, and stamina will decrease.

Staying fed

Any food will do

Phillip’s blog: Hunger and thirst are basic needs, and any cooked food can keep you satiated. One player grows crops so they never think about it and, for bosses, adds For bosses and such, just equip stat food. You can pick those up and don’t need to cook them.

Buff food

Timed stat boosts

The same blog says food can raise max health, concentration, stamina, regeneration and resistances, and On average, food buffs last around 30 minutes. Water is a workbench recipe in the trailer frame. What concentration and stamina do in a fight is on Dimraeth combat.

Food and water go into three quick slots; a player on the forum asked for their hotkeys and the thread has no answer.

Alchemy table and potion charges

Potions refill when you rest, so what you craft at the alchemy table is more charges, not a stockpile. A player on the forum:

You start out with two HP potions, and later, using an alchemy table, you can increase the number of potions you can use between rests at a campfire.

A player. Posted in the Steam thread Steam discussion: Hp and mana regeneration

  • SwoleBenji builds the table early: the cool thing about the alchemy workbench is we can start crafting better health potions.
  • Offensive tools (throwing knives, flasks) upgrade the same way. One player: You can upgrade the offensive consumables and your potion to have multiple charges. Another, I have it upgraded several times, I have 5 charges., still found one fight could use them all.
  • One of each: SwoleBenji notes you also cannot have more than one of the same item on your item hot bar here, and the player with five charges found no upgrade that lets you equip two offensive tools at once.
  • Dying does not refill them. A player asked why do enemies respawn after the player dies without the potions being refilled? Rest at a campfire instead.

How many charges the starter health flask can reach, and the berries it takes, are in the Dimraeth beginner guide.

Salvage at the blacksmith

Unwanted gear is a crafting material. Larry Puss recommends choosing one set that you think fits your play style and salvaging the rest at the blacksmith, because You’re going to need a lot of salvage materials for upgrades anyway. The blacksmith is Manga (see Dimraeth NPCs), and what the salvage buys at the forge is on Dimraeth equipment.

Chests: auto-deposit and their own build tab

Two changes make storage less of a chore. Larry Puss found a button that can automatically deposit matching items into your storage chests, and it works on gear sets too:

As long as you already have at least one piece from a particular set stored inside that chest, the game will automatically recognize and deposit any matching pieces from that same set.

Larry Puss. Said in the 7WvbXSHSAJM

So give each set its own chest and put one piece in first. Mudtek’s Hotfix 0.107.7694 lists Fixes storage chests to have their own tab. The post does not say which menu the tab is in, so guides that send you to the Furniture tab may be out of date. Chest sizes, the guild hall chest and the rest of storage are on the Dimraeth Sanctum page.
