Dimraeth bugs and fixes
Most launch-week Dimraeth problems already have a developer workaround. Maintaining the Defenses stuck on Rahaner: fixed in the first public hotfix, so let Steam update the game. Trapped in a small invisible box at your camp: teleport to a waypoint. Thrown back to the main menu while loading or saving: check first whether Windows Defender or antivirus is blocking the game from writing to disk, the cause a developer found in the first reported case.

Find your problem
| What happens | Try this | Who says so |
|---|---|---|
| Rahaner has no dialogue for Maintaining the Defenses | Update the game: the first public hotfix fixes the turn-in | Developer Viakaros |
| You can only walk a step in any direction at your camp | Teleport to a waypoint | Developers Viakaros (forum) and mudtek (Reddit) |
| Kicked to the title screen during the first cutscene, or Failed to save progress | Check Windows Security, Protection History, for blocked writes | Developer Viakaros |
| Screen goes black and zooms in after Vanishing Strike | Exit and reload the game | The player who reported it; a developer is looking into it |
| Returning friends cannot join a New Characters Only world | Turn the setting off in Settings, Multiplayer | Developer Mudtek |
| XP spent at a campfire but no level-up | Confirm one attribute order at a time; if XP truly vanished, send your character and world files | Developer Viakaros |
| Constant stutter every few seconds, or a crash | Keep player.log before restarting and hand it to the developers | Developer Viakaros |
Everything below is a workaround posted while fixes were still being tested, so check the patch notes on the Dimraeth roadmap and update history before assuming a bug is still live. Developers answer bug reports fastest on the official Discord; where that and the other channels are is on the Dimraeth Discord, subreddit and forum page.
Maintaining the Defenses will not finish
The quest tells you to talk to Rahaner, and Rahaner offers nothing but Leave. One player reported “It says speak to Rahaner but there are no dialogue options except to leave.” Another found that abandoning it made things worse: “Once I canceled the quest, I couldn’t accept it again.” So do not cancel it. The fix was tested on the playtesters branch first and then shipped to everyone in the first public hotfix:
“Fixes Maintaining the Defenses quest not able to turn in”
Mudtek. From the hotfix notes, Steam announcement: Hotfix 0.107.7694
The same hotfix lists “Fixes side quests to not be abandonable”, so the cancel button that caused the second problem is gone. A player who had already abandoned this quest before the hotfix is not covered by any post from Mudtek yet.
“I've tested it locally but need people with the issue to confirm it fixes their problem.”
“Soaking a build for people with this issue.”
The rest of the early quest chain, and what comes before this quest, is laid out in the Dimraeth beginner guide.
Stuck in an invisible box at your camp
In the forum and Reddit reports you load in at your camp in the Sanctum and cannot get more than a step away, even by dashing. One player described it as “I can’t move, I’m only able to walk 1 step in each direction.”
- Open the map.
- Teleport to any waypoint you have already unlocked. Teleporting is free, so there is nothing to lose.
- Walk or teleport back to the Sanctum and carry on.
“We have to debug internally, but if you teleport to a waypoint it will unstick you.”
“If you have completed the tutorial you can simply teleport to a waypoint to get unstuck. Still identifying why it’s always the tent and campfire combination causing this.”
mudtek, a developer account on r/dimraeth. From r/dimraeth thread: Stuck after loading a Save
The teleport only works once you have finished the tutorial and have a waypoint to go to. Removing buildings is a coin toss: one player on the forum said removing the campfire was enough, while the player who opened the Reddit thread wrote “I removed the Tent and campfire. no change. Verfiyed Files, no change.” mudtek later added that a fix was on the test branch:
“This has been fixed and am there is a hotfix build being tested on the steam playtesters branch - once we feel comfortable it is working for everyone we will push it to the main branch.”

The tent, the campfire and what else the Sanctum holds are covered on the Dimraeth Sanctum and building guide.
Trying a hotfix early: the playtesters beta branch
This is the exact path the developer gave for trying a hotfix before it reaches everyone:
Find Dimraeth in the list.
The properties window opens on the game.
A player listed the choices there as Default Public Version and playtesters.
Then load your save and see whether the problem is gone. To go back, select the default public version again.
“If you go to your game library and right click, click on properties, there is a game versions tab you can click on, in there you’ll see a playtesters branch - once you swap to it it’ll update your game and then you can play and see if it resolves your issue.”
Kicked to the title screen, or Failed to save progress
Two versions of one problem. Some players are dropped back to the title screen during the first cutscene or the load after it; others play for a while, see a save failure, and are sent to the main menu. The cause a developer found in the first case brought to Discord was Windows stopping the game from writing to disk; the game gives up rather than let you play on without saving. It is the first thing to check, not the only possible cause.
- Open Windows Security.
- Go to Protection History and look for entries about blocked writes at the time you were kicked.
- If your Steam library folder is marked as protected, that is the cause the developer found in the first case brought to Discord.
- If Protection History is clean, check whether other antivirus software is blocking the game.
“so windows defender protected any writes, so basically during loading it cannot write to the disk and just kicks you back to the main menu.”
“You can check this by going to Windows Security -> Protection History and see if you see logs of writes blocked.”
“If it's not that it could also be anti-virus software blocking the write attempts or something along similar lines.”
“Some people have anti-virus or windows defender blocking writes to their disk - I put in a timeout if this happens too much to prevent the player from playing for hours and then restarting the game and finding all their time had been wasted.”
One handheld player in the same thread had nothing in Protection History; they had been launching in Xbox mode through Winhanced, and got past the first cutscene by switching to desktop mode and starting the game straight from Steam. There is no manual save to fall back on: a player answering the question of how to save wrote “The game uses auto saves.”
Vanishing Strike soft-lock
After Vanishing Strike, the character disappears, most of the screen goes black and zooms in, and nothing responds; waypoints still teleport you but the screen stays black. The reporter hit it killing the treant in The Corrupted Beast quest and said “exiting and reloading the game solves the issue.”
“Someone had this with the goblin king on the discord (don’t know if you’re the same person) - I will look into it”
So it is not tied to one boss. If your build leans on it, the other ways to spend those points are on the Dimraeth skill tree page, and the fights where it has happened are on Dimraeth bosses.
New Characters Only locks out returning players
A host who ran a world with the New Characters Only setting found that after restarting the server, friends who had already played there were refused even though they were returning players. The developer’s workaround is to switch the setting off:
“Looking into it - fortunately if you just want to play now you can turn off the new character only setting in the Settings -> Multiplayer menu.”
Be sure before you do. The host who reported it added that the game warns “though it notes that you can’t turn it back on.” The other world settings and how hosting works are on Dimraeth co-op and multiplayer.
XP spent at the campfire but no level-up
Leveling in Dimraeth means spending XP on attributes; the XP you spend fills the level bar. A player reported confirming a level-up on controller and staying the same level with the XP gone. The developer described a preview bug that produces exactly that impression:
“There is a bug we'll be patching where if you preview certain attribute upgrades, but then remove some and raise others and keep going back and forth - the actual level preview bar gets off because the order of the increase changes the cost of subsequent attribute upgrades and the level preview bar stops previewing exactly that order.”
“If that is not the issue you are experiencing and you are saying the XP just simply vanishes, then you can hop onto the discord or email me your character and world file and I can look at it.”
The practical fix: pick your attributes in one pass instead of adding and removing points in the preview, and trust the level you end on rather than the bar. How attribute costs rise is explained on Dimraeth leveling and respec.
Spending more skill points than you have
One player clicked more nodes than they had points for, the game crashed, and that character crashed on every load; a new character was fine. The developer’s reply was “That can happen if your putting in more points than the game shoudl allow.” The player’s own guess at the trigger was “the moment I was putting points was when my friend had a disconnection.” That is a player’s theory, not a confirmed cause, but it costs nothing to avoid spending points while a co-op friend is dropping.
Crashes, constant stutter and player.log
Stutter at a few fixed spots, such as the Earlwood bridge into the Farmlands, is scene loading on lower-end hardware and is covered on Dimraeth system requirements. Stutter every few seconds everywhere is different:
“if you are not in those transition points and just always get stutter every few seconds - it could be your player.log file spamming errors and overloading the disk write”
Where that file lives, and the other stutter fixes developers and players have posted, are collected on Dimraeth stutter and lag fixes. For crashes, the developers ask for that same file, and timing matters, because a restart wipes it:
“if you restart the game it will clear the log file, so make sure you give it to me after the crash and before you restarted the game.”
If one character crashes every time it loads while your others work, the file they want is the character file instead; to a player with exactly that problem the developer wrote “hop onto the discord and I’ll grab your character file and see what’s wrong”.
